David's song writing reflects his worldly personality, intrinsic artistry, and electric musical taste. He has written Hula songs, blues songs, rock songs, and children's songs. He likes the power pop artists such as NRBQ, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, and the Beatles. Written by David McEvoy, the song Easy to Love is the title song of the new CD release by Pati McLean and Crash! Bam! Boom!
David was born in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1960, and grew up in Potsdam, New York. He played upright bass in the school orchestra while in the 4th and 5th grades. At the age of 11 He moved to Mobile, Alabama where he played french horn at school in the 5th and 6th grades. David picked up the guitar in 1973, at age 13, when he bought a 60's Fender Mustang and a brown Princeton amp for $50!
Then he discovered guitar, and taught himself how to play. David's early influences were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, but soon he discovered a wide variety of music like Bob Marley, Roxy Music, Brian Eno and the new wave and punk bands. His favorite guitar players are Freddy King, Albert Collins, Dave Edmunds, the Vaughan brothers, Johnny Winter, and Red Volkert.
David started playing lap steel guitar in 1994, and has since become a huge fan of slide players like Sonny Landreth and Junior Brown. David also likes to brew his own beer, when he has time, and is attempting to build a few lap steel guitars of his own!
