Randy
Larkin - Electric Guitarist, Songwriter, Producer
Randy is formally trained in music theory and jazz, from classes at the University of Pittsburgh and by teachers Ted Hall, Mark Bish, and Mike Harris. This training appears in his song writing: "I try to write songs that have different twists, chord voicings, and turn arounds. Although the 12 bar is the classic blues format, it is overused and I try to expand upon it with songs that don't fit into that mold. I love minor keys. Robert Cray is definitely an influence." Larkin contributed music and/or lyrics to 12 songs on the CD "Easy to Love". As the executive producer of "Easy to Love" Larkin feels that, "Recording the CD was a rewarding experience. It was a team effort all the way with a great spirit of cooperation. That's how I like to work, as a collaborator."
Randy is also the president of Austone Electronics Incorporated; an Austin based company that manufactures guitar effects pedals. Guitarists worldwide used the Fuzz Nutz™, Textone Fuzz Nutz™, Millenium Overdrive™, and the Soul-O-Stomp™. Larkin uses Austone effects on the CD "Easy to Love".
From a very young age Randy Larkin's taste, as a music lover, range across the musical spectrum from classical and jazz to blues and rock and roll. Larkin got his first guitar at the age of 13 and began playing blues around the age of 15. Of his playing, Larkin says, "I've played in lots of bands with varying styles, but I've always primarily been a blues player. Something about the blues grabs me!" In Austin, Randy joined Blue Flame in 1996 and in 1999, the band changed names to Pati McLean and Crash! Bam! Boom!
